Farsong Blog-o-Matic - OSX Menu

So, I like the Pidgin (formerly GAIM) status icons well enough that I installed a set of them into my Adium.

But I'm using the icons and I get the nagging suspicion that something is terribly wrong in my menu bar*.



So I look again:

And something is definitely wrong.

I look a little closer:



It's not a huge deal because I can simply uncheck the “Badge the menu item with current status” check-box in the advanced preferences.



And then it's all okay:


Though, I do like seeing the status icon up there as a visual cue, because the contact list is normally hidden to the right edge of the screen when Adium is not active.


But it's a little bizarre because I never realised that things could extend beyond the framework of the menu bar. Frankly, I'm glad that most menu items don't, just for the consistency of the OS.
