zeitgeist: tired tired
now playing: “Back to the Top” - Brisk & Trixxy

I spent the better part of the afternoon working on this. Some of the time, in a half-distracted manner. I drew it because I wanted to. No other reason. It's a drawing based off a film I acted in over the weekend.

This is actually a composite; the characters were sketched individually, and I pieced everything together in Photoshop. I thought about adding text in Photoshop, but I liked the look of the handwritten title better. I struggled with the face shapes, though. I have a hard time making extras, or even drawing a lot of different people. I am pleased with the coloring/shading. Actually, I'm pleased with the whole thing, though I do see room for improvement.

However, it has been said that I have a very distinctive style. I do deem this a good thing.

Evening
There's a story here, and it's worth telling. See, this past weekend I helped out a friend by acting in a film; he's a film major and the director/editor. I didn't edit. I didn't film. I didn't direct. I just acted.

A short video, really--it's probably 7-and-a-half minutes long. Tops*. I'm not going to give away the plot. Instead, I'm going to say that it was filmed over two seven-hour shoots this past weekend. It was shot in 1080i, and it looks fantastic. I may need to get myself a pro HDV cam just for the clarity and color reproduction. Except I have a perfectly fine DV cam, and YouTube doesn't have good quality anyway. I should probably also find a stereo condenser mic, though--I have one with a nice pickup, but it's monaural. There was also a jib. It was heavy and made awesome crane-shots.

Being on the other side of the lens is a different experience. One, it was cold. Two, there was a lot of standing around. I crawled under a car. Someone else locked themselves out of their car, while it was parked and running. We all had fun. I helped on crew, too--as we had a total of five people.

Seriously, making movies is the best thing to do on a long weekend. I'll post a YouTube link when the director finishes the video.

Also: I learned more about Mormons than I ever knew before. Ask me about it.

And the day was rounded out with a delicious Ruben, a tasty, refreshing Pilsner, and a fairly bland, not-so-tasty potato(e) salad.

*This is after editing. We shot for 14 hours, and used about an hour of tape. The video is 7 minutes. Had I been shooting, more tape would probably have been used.
