I've been on a bizarre music kick this week (by "this week," I mean "since last Monday"). I've been listening to music that sucks, and it's awesome. It has involved a lot of DEVO on repeat on my iPod (which, in and of its self, is ironic).
Most of the finding of this music has involved clicking random links from one video to another on the youtube.
Anyway, there are some videos, and they're under a cut.
Robot High School - My Robot Friend
My Robot Friend is like DEVO combined with Daft Punk, Combined with They Might Be Giants. This video was shot in one take.
Deceptacon - Le Tigre
I don't know what to say. Two people dancing to a repetitive, low-fi song in ridiculous garb (yellow rubber pots, giant sunglasses, and what appear to be Power Gloves). Is there anything that says "internet is the new democratisation of media" better than this? Watch at about 2:05 where they take of their shirtsleeves and pants and dance in short shorts.
I Sing the Body Electric - Waste Disposal Machine
Blast Off! - Rivers Cuomo
The grainy lo-fi music mixed with DV Handycam video of Rivers Cuomo wandering around Japan makes this bizarrely endearing. There're even robot voices at the 1:46 mark. It's not "Beverly Hills," though that was the scary thought when the beat first picked up. Nope, just Rivers Cuomo. And then it stops at 2:46. But seriously now, Rivers--do your own thing, not what you think people want Weezer to sound like or what you think they want to hear.
