zeitgeist: prussia
now playing: “Bali Run” - Fourplay
Today was … actually rather awesome.
Half of the details will have to wait. The other half I can tell.
I got the first three issues of Doktor Sleepless. For those who don't know, Doktor Sleepless is about a 19th-century-style mad scientist in the future. Since it's written by Warren Ellis, it's also a somewhat-dystopian future. Of course, this is more of an historic event because it marks the first actual comix purchase I've made. The other comics have been in anthologies. Even more interesting is how I arrived at print comics, by way of Webcomics (that is, comics on the tubes we call the inter-nest). It's rather awesome, because the comics publishers have been complaining about how they're going out of business. See, for me, it's about the story. Make a compelling story and I'll buy the thing. Something new and original. Edgy is also good. Doktor Sleepless is edgy. He also wears goggles and is insane.
Then it was library-ho. Books acquired: Options: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs, written by the Fake Steve Jobs. Also, the second book in the Wheel of Time series, The Great Hunt. I devoured the last one.
The evening went downhill with no one around. So I finally started up Metroid Prime III.
There was also an attempt to listen to the Eagles and REM again. I liked neither when I last listened to them roughly two years ago (and had actually deleted the albums off my disk array), but lately I can't get "Shiny, Happy People" out of my head, for some reason.
Also: the current icon also makes the best cellphone handset background image ever.
