Two-thousand-eight is an interesting year, so far. It started as a bang; a mortarshot from a canon.

2008: it's a year of new things, and of realisations. It's a year of upsets. It's a year of new energy, too. It's electric; it's renewal. I know I can almost feel it in the air and in my bones. It's exciting. It's one of those times you can feel the tipping point and the point at which everything around you starts spinning and changing. It's one of those points.

Noticeably, the biggest thing here is the fact that it is an election year. It's also full of hope.

And of course it's strange and new and bright especially when compared to the last year. And 2007 was a decidedly drab and stagnant year, so the contrast is even greater. I didn't realise I was glad to see that year go until after it was gone and we were already into '08.

It's a year of revelations. And revelations are always intensely-personal things.

It's a year of “Just going with it” in the instance of newfound things.

It's a year of “not simply putting up with things” in the case of many other things that have stagnated or need to be renewed.


And thus far, I have thrown myself into the year and I have not been disappointed.

Sorry, people who bought the DVDs …

CBS has uploaded the entire original Star Trek series, all three seasons (1966-1969), which can be viewed online for free as part of their new Audience Network.

CBS has also uploaded the first two seasons of The Twilight Zone and the first season of Hawaii 5-0.
