The grind never ends

tired
now playing: “Round One” - Youngblood Brass Band
I just returned from a concert at EWU. Jazz was one of many genres that it might fall under.
Now, the interesting thing about going to Eastern is the number of people I already knew there. I keep running into people, all the time. Tonight, it was a former student teacher/current professor I ran into, Don Goodwin.
Apparently, he's running the Jazz band at LC, doing a great deal of Jazz with Rob Tapper, as well as teaching composition at EWU while the composition teacher is on sabbatical*.
Interestingly enough, he said that he'd seen me around, but couldn't for the life of him remember from where he knew me. It was band, three years ago, when he was student teaching.
The interesting thing, though, was when I was looking into his eyes, I noticed that his eyes looked exceedingly tired. He has all his irons in the fire--it's only natural that he'd look tired. I thought about this on the drive home, and it occurred to me that the grind never ends, even after college.
In college, it's all about staying up late finishing assignments and reaching deadlines. In the "real world," there are also deadlines, but they're never as clearly-defined, which makes it more stressful.
Earlier to-day, I also (finally) ran into another friend at school. I've hung out with him since returning to Spokane, but never in the context of EWU (mostly in the context of driving to Bellingham to visit another mutual friend). He asked me to go out shooting with him, on the morrow.
Shooting. Like guns.
( I think this is kinda like Gonzo--writing is what I do instead of drawing those awful bad-drawing daily WTF strips. It's also long. )
In other news, my brain exploded. Babylon 5 + Firefly mashups went everywhere. About three pages of sketchbook. Something like that. They'll be posted sometime.
Oh, and I'm cleverly ignoring the day that can be referred to as "Horny Werewolf Day" because of its relationship to pagan festivals of fertility--not because I'm fanatically religious, but because of personal reasons from last year**. Also: commercialism.

*I just noticed that this word has the same root as "Sabbath."
**It's awkward, and I'm still getting over it, though I think that life will go on.
