Mobile device usage

I just spent a little while thinking about the usage of a mobile handheld device for things such as internet. Mostly this was sparked by my learning that there is a new model of my blackberry due out soon that incorperstea the one thing that mine is lacking: wifi.

However, I decided that I'm happy with the device I have, for several reasons:

1) the quality of usage would go down, as wifi would drain the battery, mobile browsers are not as capable as full-sized ones, and web pages are limited on mobile devices by the actual speed of the processor. It is less than ideal
2) the device already does away with one of the reasons to haul around a laptop, even without wifi proper: email. Plus, the EDGE signal is steady even while in motion, unlike wifi which does not reach as far. It works in more areas than wifi exists. Plus, if I really had the inclination, I'd just add a full data plan to my phone.
3) I can do most of the things from my handheld that I would use the laptop for, as well--I can not only do e-mail, but I can Blog and post pictures directly from the device as well. The only reason to have the laptop is for actual editing and multimedia creation--drawing, seeing full pages while writing, editing pictures or video, and reading long documents (but aren't e-readers better for that, and easier on the eyes?).

Anyway, that's basically the reason that I have for doing, with my handheld, what many people haul their laptops around for. Laptops much larger than mine, qhen I still think mine is a large thing to haul around, and it's among the smallest and most powerful that one can find cheaply.
